Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington, Texas

To those of us who have frequented Six Flags St. Louis over the years these boats look kind of familiar.

This is the Yosemite Sam and the River of Gold River Adventure.  It is an Arrow Dynamics built water dark ride that uses boats just like the Scooby Doo/Castaway Kids/Time Tunnel/Huck Finn's Cave ride that was at Six Flags St. Louis before Justice League replaced it.

This dark ride like the one at St. Louis has seen its share of rebirths over the years.

It opened in 1961 as the Spee-Lunker's Cave Ride.  That ride had a bizarre theme to it.  The story was that aliens called "Spee's" crashed here and due to being unable to handle sunlight were forced into this cave where they entertained guests who floated through it.

In 1991 the weird Spee's were sent packing and the Looney Tunes gang moved in.  The story is of Yosemite Sam stealing gold and being perused  by Bugs, Daffy and the rest of the group is way more fitting in the Texas themed section of the park than weird alien cave dwelers.
