Did we get more of the New Texas Giant during our stay in Arlington?
Unfortunately no. With the park massively filling up and the
New Texas Giant not on the
basic Flash Pass that we purchased
to make sure we got all of the coasters we wanted in during this
busy holiday weekend we ended up leaving with just one ride.
One of these years we are going to figure out some time of the year
when Six Flags Over Texas isn't packed so we can come and spend a
couple of days really enjoying this park.
There were two big rides at Six Flags Over Texas that were not on
the Flash Pass and that we were advised to get to both of them
early. One of them was the New Texas Giant and the other was
the legendary Shock Wave that had recently had virtual reality
goggles added to the ride this year. Now dubbed The New
Revolution instead of the Shock Wave Bond and I were curious if
virtual reality on a coaster was better than actual reality?
Shock Wave still has a height requirement of 42 inches but with the
violent video game graphics of "The New Revolution" (an name taken
from The Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain that was the first
coaster in the chain to have VR added to it) it now has an age
requirement if you want to go for the VR option. I think the
shoot-em-up and blast the aliens nature of the VR and the fact that
you have a massive helmet on ones head are the reasons behind the
age requirement.
If you are unsure what a "virtual reality coaster" is, this is it.
It is just a real coaster where riders wear virtual reality helmets
with a show synched up to the coasters movements. My first
impression is that a train load of riders with helmets on looks more
than a little dorky.
Speaking of looking a little dorky here is Bond modeling the latest
in virtual reality coaster bondage wear. Oops I mean head
gear.
