A week before our visit on this site sat the Wildcatter. It
was a ten story tall drop ride that opened at the park in 1982. While
a thrilling ride, especially the anticipation filled few seconds before
you plummet to the earth - but it was a bit dated and dwarfed by the Superman
Tower of Power. So with some strategically placed demolition charges
it came tumbling on down. Quick to get working on the new for 2008
Tony Hawk's Top Spin that was to replace the Wildcatter all that remained
when we visited was this clearing.
Not content to just plow under what was to be forgotten like most parks Six
Flags Over Texas remembers their past.
If you look carefully you can even find some remains of the Big Bend while
walking on one of the parks tree covered walkways. I'd have loved
to been able to ride Big Bend as I'm a huge fan of its designer Anton Schwarzkopf
but it looked like a fantastic ride. Unfortunately being the first
coaster of its kind it had a few bugs that Anton corrected with his later "Speed
Racer" line of coasters like the Whizzer at Six Flags Great America.
One thing that I really like about Six Flags Over Texas is that there
are tons of tree covered walkways that aren't crowded in with stuff.
You can walk and enjoy the shade and the wind through the trees on an beautiful
day.
