Greezed Lightnin's Launch Mechanism @ Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom

In the tower out past the front spike a weight falls and pulls on a steel cable.  That cable goes through a bunch of pulleys and pulls this little cart that pushes the train down the track.  What's neat about this is that with a flywheel launch Schwarzkopf shuttle loop this car would back up along the track but with the drop-weight model of the ride the cart goes around in a circle on a track instead of back and forth. I just think it's a cool way to launch a coaster and I really enjoy checking out the engineering skill that went into making Greezed Lightnin'.

Greezed Lightnin's Back Spike @ Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom

Of course the back spike on Greezed Lightnin' isn't just there for looks.

Greezed Lightnin's Back Spike @ Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom

I love sitting in the back seat on Greezed Lightnin' because you get a nice little pop of airtime when you go up the back spike.

Getting back to the speedway theme check out the Greezed Lightnin' car under the back spike.

Ok, just one more picture of Greezed Lightnin' in action!  I absolutely LOVE this coaster.
