A second record that Goliath currently holds is the tallest drop on
a wooden coaster. The lift is 165 feet tall but Goliath's drop bottoms
out fifteen feet below grade. Hey you could make a story problem out
of that. With a lift of 165 feet and a drop that goes below grade
15 feet what is the total drop? Easily doing the math that makes the
current tallest first drop on a wooden coaster at 180 feet.
Coming with a record first drop is Goliath's third record which is being
the fastest wooden coaster at 72 miles per hour.
Coming up from the tunnel at the bottom of Goliath's first drop at high
speed you head up into the overbanked turn.
This turnaround is really fun because as you speed up into the sky you are
twisted to a side...
...and then whipped around the top of the turnaround. You are only
up there for a flash but the supports whizzing by overhead are a nice visual
and make it feel as if the ride is going even faster.
