One of the best ways to start off
any visit to Six Flags Great America is to go get a ride on one of the
best steel coasters at the park...the Whizzer. Normally there's
not a huge line for this ride and it's near the entrance to the park.
Here Carrie is fastening her seat-belt before "whizzing" off.
The Whizzer does not have a chain
lift, instead each car has an electric motor that propels the ride up
the spiral lift.
You can see the Whizzer's spiral
lift here from the second hill. If you look at my Great America
pictures from the 1980's you'll notice that there was little vegetation
around the Whizzer then but it has grown up nicely for some added effect.
No the Whizzer doesn't have one
of the steepest drops out there, but it is fun and it makes a great
sound as it goes...the Whizzer actually sounds that way. It "whizzes"
because of the wheels that are attached to the electric lift motors
rev them up.
After the wonderful first drop into
the trees you climb back up and turn around before going back down into....
