Six Flags Great America Gurnee, Illinois 1999 Page Three
The Demon is a great themed Arrow Dynamics multi-looping coaster. It was originally called the Turn Of The Century but after a couple of years they added two vertical loops to the corkscrew and added some cool theming and the Demon was born.
The Demon was themed as if you were battling some supernatural bad guy from the nether regions who took over a coaster. They used to play this corny but cute fake radio show over the PA while you were in line. It had news broadcasts a-la war of the worlds about the battle against the Demon. It even had a bad 1970'sish pop song about the Demon and news reports about the Air Force bombing the ride.
In addition to
the audio theming the Demon had tunnels with steam and lights and rock
formations around and over the track. Beneath the two corkscrew's
used to be a huge lake of blood and when you went over it blood would
shoot up at you. The only reason the water is red in this picture
is because these photos were taken during frightfest. Also the
ride used to have a super logo which was a drainage pipe all boarded
up with glowing eyes looking out at you with blood flowing out of the
pipe. This logo can be seen to the left and on my
1980's Great America page.
Six Flags over the years have taken out the logo and some of the effects
due to complaints from religious groups and I feel that they have taken
away some of the charm of this fun coaster. Click

Great America photos.
