The Joker
removed the wood rails and with some thirty two hundred
feet of steel added three inversions and the kind of violent airtime
that Rocky Mountain is known for.
The Joker was really a lot of fun and I wish I was able to get more than
just one ride.
Unfortunately Joker only had one train running and it kept braking down
like the rest of the park so it was a little miracle that we got to ride
it at all.
Another ride that was among the many that were having issues was The
Flash: Vertical Velocity. This is a weird ride that really looks
like fun. It is an Intamin designed "impulse coaster" like
Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great America. It is an inverted
coaster that uses a magnetic launch to propel the ride back and forth on
the track. This one has seen heavy modifications from the way it
was when it originally opened in 2001. Basically Six Flags built the
ride without the proper permits from the city as a result the front
spike instead of heading straight up now heads out at a 45 degree angle
and the back spike was shortened. I've heard that The Flash is a
really fun coaster but it was not for us this trip. Oh well I
guess The Flash and Harley Quinn will have to be gotten the next time
I'm out here.
Oh, finishing it up we finally got on Boomerang. It was just like
all of the other Boomerangs that I have been on.
That's all for our time at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The park
has a fantastic collection of rides and looks wonderful but at least on
the day we visited they have some operational problems that needs to get
worked through. Hopefully we were just unlucky because it would be
a shame if such a good collection of rides was wasted especially when
other parks in the chain have been passed over for investment when this
park has steadily been on the receiving end of big investment.
Even though it became comical seeing how everything we headed to broke
down it was a fun afternoon and a great way to kick off our trip.
One park down...ten to go. The next stop is California's Great
America.
