The Splashwater Falls Shoot the Chutes ride at Six Flags America, Upper Marlboro, MD

What was different between the classic Shoot the Chutes from early in the 1900's to the ones that sprouted up in the late 1980's through mid 1990's was that these rides had a simple goal....to get you completely soaking wet.

Another difference between classic Shoot the Chutes and the modern variations built by Intamin or Hopkins is that they added bridges over the splash zone.  These make it so if you didn't get completely soaked on the ride all you had to do is stand on the bridge to get slammed with a few thousand gallons of water to finish off the job.

While I do enjoy these rides without a swimsuit on and a dry change of clothes I'm more likely to pass as I hate wearing wet clothes for the rest of the day.

It'd be nice if Splashwater falls was saved.  It'd be a great attraction to add to one of Six Flags water parks where I suspect it'd be more popular than in a theme park.

The High Seas was one of the rides added to Wild World for the 1983 season.  With the rides manufacturer no longer supporting aging rides like this one chances are this one will end up being used for parts at one of the other parks in the chain.
