Here is one more sunset shot as day turned to night.
Silver Dollar City's "An Old Fashioned Christmas" event was ongoing and
as sunlight fade away the glow of Christmas lights filled the park.
Up the hill in Silver Dollar City's square the massive Christmas tree
was alight giving the park a magical atmosphere.
Christmas with my family was wonderful this year but I didn't know that
it wasn't quite over for me. For the second time that day my heart
skipped a beat over a phone call. Silver Dollar City had held a
contest to give Fire in the Hole super fans for the chance to be on the
final trains. Unfortunately not everyone was able to make it so I
received a call asking if Carrie and I would be interested in being part
of the final rider group. After my heart started pumping after a couple
of seconds of shock I of course accepted. Being able to do
something like this made me feel like a kid on Christmas morning knowing
that the coolest gift ever was waiting for me under the tree.
All of the final riders gathered in the Silver Dollar Saloon as we
waited for the line for Fire in the Hole to willow down. Joining
me were a few Baldknobbers, a ton of Fire in the Hole fans from as far
away as Wisconsin, and even a fan dressed up as Red Flanders.
Silver Dollar City's Park President Brad Thomas joined us all to give us
a talk about the history of Fire in the Hole, why it is so
important to the park, and why they needed to make sure that the coaster
will live on for generations to come.
