The glass went in and out of the furnace as it was molded little by
little into shap
e. To flatten the bottom of the bubble of
molten glass to make a mug a wooden plank was used.
Here we have the glass cooling and the work went from the shape of the
mug and the bottom to working on the top of it. To do this a blob
of glass was attached to the bottom of the mug and the top of the bubble
worked through. As it cools you can start to see the colors that
Carrie picked emerge.
A little more heat as the handle is added to the mug.
With a blast from a torch the blob of glass and pole at the bottom were
removed and all that needed to happen was for it to be slowly cooled
over the next twenty-four hours.
Here is the final product. Being able to watch this work of art
being created right before her eyes really made Carrie's day.
While writing this a couple of months later (sorry I have been busy with
work as someone has to keep sending yummy food up to Canada through the
pandemic) she uses it daily and absolutely loves her custom work of art
made by the craftsmen at Silver Dollar City.
