There are five million Christmas lights covering all of Silver Dollar
City for An Old Time Christmas.
For the brand new Christmas in Midtown another 1.5 million lights were
crammed into just one of Silver Dollar City's acres.
The whole park is amazing all lit up and then you enter Midtown and it
is BOOM!
The whole area reminds me of this one house that we used to drive past
on I-294 up in the Chicago area coming home from my Grandmother's at
Christmas.
This was back in the late 70's when energy prices were spiraling out of
control and having a house all lit up was really rare. Near the
Oak Lawn toll plaza this one house had every shingle, every board, every
window outlined in lights so much you could see a glow on the horizon
through all of the city lights when you approached it. That house
just blazed into my retina and into my memory like Christmas in Midtown
does.
