With a looping wooden coaster being added to Silver Dollar City this
year there was no doubt that we'd be going there a bunch. The plan
was for our first visit this season was to be for the American Coaster Enthusiasts
"Outlaw Run: The World Premiere" event in early May but our plans
had to be refigured because of Bond.
The reason to reschedule was because of Bond's Science Fair Project.
The project was about the safety features of various bridge designs and
which are the safest in earthquakes (Fitting as he wants to be an engineer...namely
the kind who builds coasters). The project ended up doing well at
the Regional Science Fair as his project won a Navy Engineering Award AND
first place which garnered him a spot at the Illinois State Science Fair
which is really rare for a first time project. The thrill of winning
first place quickly turned into a bummer for him when he realized that the
State Science Fair was the same weekend as the American Coaster Enthusiasts
event at Silver Dollar City.
To make it up for him we decided the weekend of his thirteenth birthday
that Carrie and I would take him down to Branson to spend not just a couple
of days at Silver Dollar City but three whole days of coasters and fun.
Oh about the State Science Fair...he won second place in engineering and
is already working on a really ambitious project that has to do with coaster
structures for next year.
A pleasant surprise was that Silver Dollar City was having their World Fest
festival during our visit. World Fest is a giant celebration of the
various cultures around the world with music, food and shopping. Those
three are things that all of us including Carrie; who was joining us for
the trip, could enjoy so she'd have something to do when Bond and I needed
to head out and spend some quality father-son time strapped into a coaster.
Speaking of coasters of course Bond and I headed right to the brand new
Outlaw Run when we got into the park.
Outlaw Run is situated down past The Giant Barn Swing at a dead end.
I'm curious if sometime in the future Silver Dollar City is going to connect
Outlaw Run with Powder Keg with a new midway and a new section to the park?
