There was so much promise and excitement all around when Old Chicago
opened.
You could feel the anticipation as the sides of the building were tilted
up and the dome was erected piece by piece.
What is interesting is how the attitude changed from that initial
excitement to the relief when it finally started to come down.
The relief was not coming from those of us who loved and had magical
experiences at Old Chicago, but from the residents of Bolingbrook who
had once hoped that Old Chicago was going to transform their community
for the better only to become a massive failure that just held them
down.
Even though it had been years since my last visit to Old Chicago every
time we drove past it seeing that dome on the horizon good memories came
back to me.
