The Matugani launched looping roller coaster at Lost Island Theme Park, Waterloo, Iowa

After watching this coaster since my first visit to Lost Island when it was under construction in 2021 I was more than a little excited to finally take Matugani for a ride.

Matugani began its life in Europe as Kanonen at Liseberg. After the park removed the coaster someone found out that it was shipped to Iowa of all places where it had been purchased by the Lost Island Waterpark.

The prevailing thought at that time was that Lost Island was acting as a shell company to hide which park was really going to add Kanonen to their lineup.

The rumors of Lost Island acting as shell company were way off and we were given the first peek at what was to come.

Matugani is an "accelerator coaster" by Intamin. That just means that it is one of Intamin's hydraulically launched coasters like Accelerator at Knott's Berry Farm, the original Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point, or Storm Runner at Hersheypark.
