Ok I was seriously saddened by this.
Knott's Mystery Lodge is honestly the best show I have ever seen at a
theme park. It is a wonderful tale of the importance of family
told by an aging Native American elder as he looks back through his
life. The show itself uses special effects to tell the story and
show wise it is amazing. When I visited in 2001 it did the
impossible and the show brought me to tears. Mystery Lodge was on
the itinerary for a private showing during Coaster Con 42 but when we
arrived that had been axed from the schedule and Knott's had announced
that the attraction was closed for the foreseeable future. I
sincerely hope that the trail has ended for the Mystery Lodge because it
is a such a powerful show with a tale that doesn't age.
Moving out of the town of Calico we come into Knott's Boardwalk.
When I was at Knott's Last this dark ride was the Kingdom of the
Dinosaurs. In 2015 the Dinosaurs were sent packing for an
interactive dark ride in a very much Jules Verne/20,000 Leagues Under
the Sea/steam punk genre.
The Boardwalk has seen a few transformations over Knott's History as a
theme park. It started as a section themed after the Roaring 20's.
The Boardwalk does have an interesting distinction as it has the slowest
bumper cars ever. As we are in California; a state that has taken
the term "nanny state" to a level beyond that my home of Illinois,
where things like giving someone a plastic straw can get you imprisoned
I wonder if they also declared that bumper cars can't really bump.
Maybe that is why these cars are so slow a baby could crawl faster.
