Here is Bond getting ready to get his Whip on.
The Whipper is another classic ride at Knoebels. It is a Whip that
was created by W.F. Mangels Co in Coney Island, New York.
Mangels patented The Whip in 1914 and it was extremely common at amusement
parks through the early 20th century.
The ride is very simple. These cars are pulled along by a cable on
a steel floor in an oval layout. The steel cable is pulled by two
huge wheels at each end of the oval. When the car reaches the wheel
it is whipped out at speed around the turn giving the ride its name.
There were kids versions and different sizes up to sixteen car models like
this one at Knoebels.
Many times I have seen not only kids running off The Whipper, down the exit
and back in line but their parents and grandparents as well because these
are so much fun. Carrie sat down and Bond and I lapped The Whipper
for half an hour laughing and having fun all the way through it.
Not only is The Whipper fun but I really dig the cool neon sign. It
looks awesome at night.
