After getting up at 5 am, working for 10 hours, driving for six
and a half and sleeping for just three why would Bond and I along with three
hundred other American Coaster Enthusiast members line up at Kings Island
at 4
am?
It is great to get to Kings Island at any time open or close but the big
reason that we traveled to Southwestern
Ohio was for something special.
That something special was a brand new coaster.
Mystic Timbers is the twenty-first coaster in the parks history and it
brings Kings Island's current coaster count to fifteen.
The words "Mystic Timbers" don't really scream "roller coaster" or
"thrill ride". Over the winter Bond and I joked together that the
name sounded more suitable for a salon where you could go for a Shiatsu
massage, exfoliating facial or aromatherapy.
Mystic Timbers is none of that. It is situated deep in Kings
Island's heavily wooded Rivertown section. The story for the ride is back in
1983 a lumber mill situated in a small shed deep in the woods
opened for business. Before the end of the first day of operation something
happened in the shed. Something that was so terrifying that all of
the employees fled the scene in horror never to return. What
happened in the shed thirty-four years ago never passed the lips of
those who witnessed it and has remained a mystery until this day.
