The American Coaster Enthusiasts Coaster Con 41 at Kings Dominion, Doswell, Virginia

Days two and three of the American Coaster Enthusiasts Coaster Con 41 was at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia.   Before this visit I have only had a single day at this park and I really enjoyed myself here so I was looking forward to getting two days filled with exclusive ride time and the behind the scenes tours that come hand and hand with an ACE event.

After Kings Island opened in the Cincinnati area to a huge success the owners of that park decided to build another and settled on Doswell which is just north of Richmond, Virginia for the second park in their chain.

Kings Dominion opened in 1975 and as you can see with nearly identical entrance plazas and a scaled down version of the Eiffel Tower as a centerpiece of the park Taft Broadcasting; the then owners, were replicating part of what made Kings Island such a success.

We started our day bright and early at 8:30 and headed down into the Candy Apple Grove section of the park.

This section of the park was themed after an apple orchard for the parks second season.  After decades the theming was slowly stripped away until it became just "The Grove" but in recent years Kings Dominion brought some of the iconic theming back.
