The Volcano Rollercoaster at Kings Dominion, Doswell, Virginia

The Volcano that the ride is built around has had an interesting life at Kings Dominion.  It opened with a themed train ride, log flume and Rotor ride inside of it back in 1979.  In the eighties it was transformed into Smurf Mountain.  Thankfully those little annoying blue characters are long gone and were replaced with a kick ass coaster.

Being a launched coaster, actually the first inverted launched coaster, Volcano might roll back as this warning sign states.  Wanting the extra thrill all of us were hoping that Paul and his evil ride-breaking powers (he taken down enough that he keeps count) could give us a roll back.  Sadly, like when we tried the same thing with him at Cedar Point with Top Thrill Dragster his powers didn't work on the intended ride.

The first  launch on Volcano shoots you through the mountain and out into a high speed turn on the far side that takes you back to the mountain.  As you enter the core of the volcano you are blasted straight up and out the top of the crater.

Once you're erupted out of the Volcano you speed around the outside of the mountain working your way down turning, looping and diving at high speed.
