Even though there have been massive change to Kentucky Kingdom since my
last visit looking around there are little bits from the past like
this theming fro the long gone Quake ride to remind me of what the park
once was and how far it has come.
While I was excited about all of the new coasters, old coasters, and
getting to experience the new Kentucky Kingdom I was also excited to see
this handy dandy cross walk that easily gets you between the front and
back of the park.
No more do you have to cross the road that bisects the park on a narrow
bridge that never ends. Now all you have to do is head to the
cross walk, wait for the park employees to stop traffic, and in a moment
you're across. Hopefully one of these years the Fair Board will
reroute this road giving Kentucky Kingdom a little more room to work
with. Until then this works.
As we come to the end of my visit to Kentucky Kingdom the question is
what did I think about the park?
Honestly it was nice seeing this park ran by people who actually care.
Going back to my first visit in 1997 under Ed Heart's first go at it
customer service was nonexistant. Most of the employees didn't
give a damn and they didn't even try to hide it. Back about
twenty-five years ago I told a work friend to take his family to Holiday
World. That park blew them away. The next day they had to go
to Louisville and saw Kentucky Kingdom from their hotel. Thinking
it would be just like Holiday World they went. The way he
described their experience was "like going from heaven to hell" as the
old Kentucky Kingdom was that bad.
Kentucky Kingdom isn't hell anymore. My day there was completely
wonderful and unlike many of my previous visits I left happy and
thrilled to be able to come back. Kentucky Kingdom with its
rollercoaster journey of ups and down has finally found it in the right
hands and I can't wait to see what's next for this park.
