In a park full of classics The Racer is yet another classic.
The Racer like its name implies races.
The thing that sets Kennywood's Racer apart from the majority of racing
coasters is it has to race no matter what. You see The Racer does
not have two separate tracks, it has one single track. You leave on
the left side of the station and return on the right side as both sides
work their way through one giant loop.
The Racer was designed by John Miller in 1927. Unlike Miller's
Jack Rabbit and the Pippin (the precursor to the Thunderbolt) this coaster
didn't use the hilly terrain that it sits on.
The Racer like the Jack Rabbit and the Auto Race are rides where you can
reach out and touch somebody as the trains run close enough together to
hand slap.
