The Steel Phantom is a great looping
coaster built by Arrow Dynamics and unfortunately 2000 is it's last
season as Kennywood is going to replace it with another coaster.
The Phantom is a very unique ride
as it's second drop is way deeper than it's first because it dives 225
feet down the ravine that the Thunderbolt is built over.
The Steel Phantom's was inspired
by the Shockwave @ Six Flags Great America in Chicago and it has a mirror
image of the Shockwave's first drop. I have a thing for curving
drops since the drop on the Shockwave is what turned me into a raving
coaster enthusiast.
Here's the Steel Phantom's infamous
second drop right through the Thunderbolt! It's mind numbingly
fast at the bottom but is a bit rough.
Our parting shot is the Phantom's
nice corkscrew over the brake run. I like Arrow looping coasters
but I'm not a fan of corkscrews, they leave me feeling a bit woozy.
Well have fun and try to get out to Kennywood and enjoy a great traditional
park.
