The Jack Rabbit is Idora Park's oldest coaster. It was originally
a side friction coaster which is where the coaster train is not locked to
the rails but sits between them. I read somewhere that the Jack Rabbit
is actually one of the oldest coasters still standing. The way we got to
Idora Park was through Mill Creek park; which is beautiful. They are
actually using a portion of Idora Park's parking lot as an overflow parking
for Mill Creek Park.
This is the rest of the Jack Rabbit that you can see from the parking lot.
Basically the Jack Rabbit is an out and back with a dogleg to the left.
Of course the Jack Rabbit has been overgrown over the years. Here
is the lift with a cupola over the top. I think that it was built
there to protect the chain return from rain and the elements.
Here's what's left of the station. Right after Idora Park closed there
was a park in the planning stages for Indianapolis and they wanted to buy
the Jack Rabbit. They started to disassemble the station for shipping but
the deal and park (Indy needs a park bad) fell through.
