Holiday World & Splashin' Safari Santa Claus, Indiana
2006 Construction Update
February 13, 2006
Work has continued on The Voyage's
station. In the last week several attic windows have been added
along with further work on the roofing. It also looks like they
are working on walling off some of the rooms inside the lower levels
of the station with two by fours.
This canopy was added mid week
and will be needed in the coming months as here in Southern Indiana
we tend to have a pretty wet monsoon, I mean winter. The roofers were up on The
Voyage in force this morning so I'd expect the roof to be complete in
the next day or so. In addition to the roofers there were several
people up on The Voyage's turn into the brake run working on track.
Over by the top of the hill
you can see the top of one of The Voyage's tunnels. There has
really been a lot of work going on with the turnaround as if we go north
of Holiday World by Yellig Park you can see the work through the trees
if you know where to look but unfortunately the view isn't clear enough
for decent photos.
Also late last week there were several
people working on The Voyage's chain return up at the top of the lift.
There were no cranes hoisting chain up so my thoughts are that they
were working on getting everything else ready for when it comes time
to add the chain.
Work continues on the foundation
for what I believe is going to be the Gobblers Getaway dark ride.
The dump truck parked inside it really gives a scale for how big this
building is going to be. I'm almost as excited about this as I
am about The Voyage but I hope we can get Bond to try this as once he
got over his initial fears that he has with every new ride I think he'd
enjoy rounding up turkeys and attempting to score higher than Daddy.
Oh the white that's behind the beginning
of The Voyage's lift is the Bahari Action River. The white is
from tarps that covers up all of the delicate concrete work done by
the same crew that did the rocks and idols on Bahari last year.
I can't wait to see what it looks like. Two of Bond's favorite
things to do in Splashin' Safari is Bahari and the lazy river and now
we won't have to move across the water park to go from one to the other.
