From full monsoon level rain in a short while to this. Living
in the Midwest I'm used to the weather changing quickly but not this quick
especially when the forecast was non stop rain all night long was a surprise.
Oh, the coaster to the right of this photo is the Alpine Bobsled.
Alpine Bobsled has been around. It originally opened at Six Flags
Great Adventure in 1984 as the Sarajevo Bobsled. In 1989 it was moved
to Six Flags Great America and became Rolling Thunder before finally moving
to The Great Escape in 1998. I don't think it's going to go to any
more parks as there are no more parks in the chain with "great"
in their name. Sadly for the rest of the guys it was not up and running
so we were off to the main reason for our visit...
...the Crystal Beach Comet, or The Comet as it's known as at The Great Escape.
The Comet is a legendary and storied coaster in the annals of coasterdom.
Yes it looks like a fantastic out and back coaster with plenty of airtime
but it is so much more than that.
