Demon Drop at Dorney Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania

Demon Drop is a HUGE reason I have been wanting to visit Dorney Park.

Demon Drop is the only ride of its kind in North America.

Back in the 1980's if you wanted a drop ride for your park this "Freefall" ride was the only way you could send riders falling straight down.

Designed by Giovanola and sold by Intamin these first generation drop rides once dotted the theme park landscape. Sadly these rides have been demolished one by one due to a lack of popularity with new tower drop rides and with the advance of time.

Freefall rides like Demon Drop are really simple coasters powered by gravity. The ride starts out like most coasters with a lift. The car rolls in reverse out of the station into the elevator shaft.
