At the top of Craftsmen's Valley
is the Tennessee Tornado.
The Tennessee Tornado is a really amazing coaster that was built by
Arrow Dynamics in 1999.
It was one of the final rides built by Arrow before they went into
bankruptcy and is by far the best looping coaster that they produced.
Instead of the cookie cutter loops that marked all of the other looping
coasters by Arrow the Tennessee Tornado's loops are all custom with a
few wonderful little tweaks to them that really mess with you. For
example on the first loop after diving through the mountain side has a
few twists in the track that tilt you a few degrees from side to side as
it inverts you to fit the tornado theme.
It is also wedged into the back of Craftsmen's Valley so much that when
they were cutting away at the hillside to squeeze it in the park exposed
a natural spring right by the coaster's "Iron Butterfly" pair of loops
that has to be constantly drained by a pump in order to keep the area
from being flooded. Just look up the next time you are inverted
and you will see it.
The Tennessee Tornado is always a fun ride and with light crowds as we
were visiting Dollywood on a Thursday and a Friday there was never a
wait so whenever we passed it we would take it for four or five rides
before moving on to the next ride.
