There were real and imaginary creatures, like these dragons, all around
the zoo ready to be lit up for the festival. It was a bit of a
bummer that we missed it.
The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium not only has a classic coaster but it has a
classic carousel as well.
The Grand Carousel dates back to 1914 when it opened at Olentangy Park.
After running at Wyandot Lake Park for decades it was decided to restore
it, and move it into the Zoo.
The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium has taken amazing care of this classic
carousel including having it enclosed in a climate controlled carousel
house. Being able to keep the hand carved wooden horses protected
from temperature and humidity keeps it in the best condition possible so
it can run for another hundred and eleven years.
