Chippewa Lake Park Chippewa Lake, Ohio October 7, 2002 Page One
Chippewa Lake Park in Medina Ohio was a small lakeside amusement park from 1878 to 1978 before closing it's doors for good. Twenty-four years had passed since the parks coasters thrilled the masses so I worked it so we had time to stop by after our Knoebels trip for a look. We met up with Josh who had been through the park before and he acted as a guide to what was left of Chippewa Lake Park. We didn't go through the main entrance because of the fencing there but instead headed across a field to the coaster. To get to the coaster we crossed a newly dug ditch which looked like it drained this portion of the Big Dipper's remains which had previously been resting in a swamp. It's neat as well as sad to see a coaster and a park in this sad state of disrepair. I wish Chippewa Lake had survived but it'd had a hard time surviving today with Cedar Point and Six Flags all within a hour or so drive away. Wandering through the woods that were once Chippewa Lake Park was fascinating because after every turn some remnant of the park presented itself to you.
