In 2002 I was informed by a friend about something that he saw
along the side of the highway north of Vincennes, Indiana. he told
me that someone had built a looping rollercoaster off of their shed.
I of course had to go and see if he was pulling my leg or not.
What I found was the Blue Flash Backyard Looping Coaster made by a
gentleman named John Ivers. On my first visit he wasn't home but
on my second visit I got to see the Blue Flash in action.
On an interesting internet side note after I put the first Blue Flash
Trip Report up it went "viral" even though back in 2002 that phrase
wasn't in use in regards for the very young internet. Despite
having the entire Trip Report being a measly 7MB after several early
social media sites discovered my photos I went through Negative-G's 3GB
then monthly bandwidth allowance. By the end of it I ended up
purchasing a total of 100GB's (thankfully people donated to pay for the
bandwidth) over a week. Needless to say shortly after that I moved
Negative-G to a host with unlimited bandwidth.
The Blue Flash has been one of the most terrifying coasters that I have
ever been on and by far the most unique. Last I heard the Blue
Flash is no more. On my final visit to see John and his creations
in 2006 he was in the middle of building his Blue Two family coaster.
I am not sure if John is open to visitors anymore or if he still has the
Blue Two. No matter what the pages that follow open the door to
show you the passion that some of us coaster enthusiasts go to in order
to be able to enjoy our passion.
