Adventureland Amusement Park, Altoona, Iowa

Adventureland; just outside of Des Moines Iowa, is a really fun little amusement park that for years it seems that no one in the coaster enthusiast world really raves about or goes out of their way to visit.

Adventureland is not a massive park that is a cog in some large corporate chain but Adventureland is one of the most charming little parks that is full of Americana. Walking through a tunnel under the park's train into an old town square in a very Disneyland-ish way just takes you back to a time when the world wasn't as full of instant news, Tweets, notifications, texts or calls. Adventureland is the type of place where you can leave the world behind and just have a simple day full of fun with your family and friends.

Speaking of family and friends we were joined for our day at Adventureland with many friends from our coaster family including Paul and Adrianna from Canada who were kicking off a massive two week long coaster vacation.

Once Adventureland's rope was dropped and the park opened there was a mad dash down Main Street to the park's newest coaster: The Monster.

You can run back to The Monster but the best way to to really be able to take in the amazing ride that Adventureland added this year is to start off the day with a ride on the Sky Ride.
