I'm not sure if this is still true but according to the conductor
on the train ride at Valleyfair the Wild Thing holds the record for the
most sustained airtime on a steel coaster. If that's true my guess
is it's while coming over this hundred foot tall speed hill.
Like most hyper coasters Wild Thing is in an out and back design.
Rather than just turning around Wild Thing's turnaround is a figure eight
layout with plenty of twists and turns.
You can get some great views of the Wild Thing's turnaround from Valleyfair's
parking lot as it's built directly overhead but don't try to stop on the
highway that parallel's the ride as there are numerous signs stating that
it's illegal to stop there as they've had plenty of problems with accidents
from people stopping by the side of the road to get a view of this fun coaster.
After the turnaround the Wild Thing gets back to business which means plenty
of hills filled with airtime. Throughout the day we took several spins
on Wild Thing and I have to highly suggest riding in the front seat or the
third row as those are by far the best spots for airtime. Instead
of being a dud I was pleasantly surprised with Wild Thing. It's a
really fun coaster.
