Back in 1971 this was Injun Joe's Cave.  It was an Arrow Dynamics designed dark boat ride that took you through the cave of Injun Joe from Mark Twain's "Adventures of Tom Sawyer".

Injun Joe's Dave was re-themed into the Time Tunnel in 1979, then into Tunnel Del Tempo in 1988, Legends of the Dark Castle in 1989, Castaway Kids Comic Book Adventure which closed in 1999.

The ride remained closed until 2002 when Six Flags hired Sally Dark Rides to retrofit the Arrow Dynamics boat ride with guns and to re-theme the ride into a Scooby-Doo ride.

Scooby-Doo Ghostblasters The Mystery of the Scary Swamp was a huge step up over the previous Castaway Kids which consisted of some really lame comic book looking sets and no discernable storyline.

Sally Dark Rides originally was contracted to build a copy of their Scooby-Doo Ghostblaster dark rides that were at several Paramount Parks but with reusing the ride vehicle and an enormous ride building it was decided to create a custom ride for Six Flags St. Louis.
