On your way to and from the monster that is Titan you might notice this
coaster. Did you know that this is the number 1 ranked wooden
coaster in the world by the readers of Amusement Today? I know the
enthusiasts that are reading this are saying sarcastically "Yeah right".
Well according to the conductor on the Six Flags Railroad it is. Of
course he didn't mention that it was the number one coaster over a decade
ago and has been eclipsed by such coasters as The Raven, Thunderhead and
The Voyage.
I have to say that the Texas Giant looks really cool but just pas it up,
really. I rode it back in 1997 during my only previous visit to Six
Flags Over Texas and it was a fun coaster then but we took it for a ride
the night before and with it's extreme roughness the only position it's
competing for on my list is whether or not it or Mean Streak, another Summers-Dinn
creation sit at the bottom of my wood coaster rankings.
The Texas Giant looks great and has some really cool looking trains but
only take it for a ride if you need the credit.
The Oil Derrick has been a large part of Six Flags Over Texas' skyline since
1969.
