Revolution was not the first looping coaster as there was
Corkscrew that opened at Knott's Berry Farm in 1975 (currently at Silverwood Park in Idaho).

What made Revolution so; well to use the word again, revolutionary is
that THIS is the first modern coaster with a vertical loop.

Anton Schwarzkopf and designer Werner Stengel added a vertical loop to
the sprawling layout of the ride they were designing for Magic Mountain
and we really did end up with a revolution.

With the loop looming over Magic Mountain's entrance plaza and the
insane world wide media this ride garnered suddenly every park needed a
looping coaster.

In the next few years looping coasters popped up from coast to coast.
