Up top you can pay for a Beluga Experience where you are able to get
up and close with Marineland's beluga whales and toss them a fish or two.
Beluga Whales turn white the older they get. The one we were petting
had a pup which is the grey one next to her.
The youngster had already been fed but he had no problem butting into Mom's
time with us asking for some attention and a few fish like any needy child.
All of us got the chance to pet them and toss them a few fish. Just
like the dolphins the Belugas really enjoyed the chance to play with some
new humans.
Also like the dolphins they'd nudge you if you weren't petting them enough.
They were interesting to touch because they are so cold. I had expected
some warmth as they are mammals but they have a thick layer of blubber to
insulate them from the cold North Atlantic waters where they are normally
found. Belugas are one of the animals that Marineland is really known
for as they have been extremely successful at breeding them with over thirty
conceived belugas to their record.
