I have a confession to make...I was an Avalanche lover the first
time I rode it but after spending two days getting riding it whenever we
were nearby I love it even more.
Avalanche is completely a guilty pleasure of a ride. It is like
the movie Flash Gordon; instead of being an earth shattering movie
like Star Wars it was just a cheesy and fun romp so much that it is hard
to channel surf past it. Avalanche is the same way. No
matter which group of friends that I was with if we got anywhere near it
we all had to go and get two, three or more rides on Avalanche before
moving on to the other rides at Kings Dominion.
Day or night; no matter the time of day, it was always time for
Avalanche.
Having a train full of friends makes Avalanche even better as we all
yelled back and forth at each other joking as the ride went through the
spiraling course. It was so much fun having the likes of Paul,
Adrianna, Todd, Kevin, Beth, Luke and others speeding down the chute on
Avalanche. We had so much fun that on one of our night rides
sparks flew.
Avalanche was added to Kings Dominion in 1988. Sadly the bobsled
coasters that were briefly popular in the late 1980's have been
disappearing from the coaster landscape around the world. I hope
that Kings Dominion realizes what a gem they have here and keep
Avalanche speeding down the chute and whipping around the turns as long
as they can.
