Twisted Timbers, with a very twisted first drop/inversion that
twists you upside down as the train begins to plummet, began as the
Wayne's World themed "Hurler" coaster back during the years when Kings
Dominion was Paramount's Kings Dominion.
Back in the 199o's with the huge success of Batman The Ride at Six
Flags the theme park/coaster/movie tie-in was the big thing and
Paramount wanted to bank on the popularity of the Mike Myers and Dana
Carvey Wayne's World franchise for a hit ride.
The Hurler; which was a mirror image of Thunder Run at Kentucky Kingdom,
opened at Kings Dominion in 1994.
With the huge popularity of Rocky Mountain Construction's refurbishing
wooden coasters into twisted steel creations plus The Hurler's
maintenance costs and declining popularity it is no surprise that Kings
Dominion decided to put the ride under the knife to create a twisted
hybrid coaster.
As a result after some serious modifications this year The Hurler was
reborn as Twisted Timbers.
