The Wild Mouse may have been down but Idlewild's star attraction the
Rollo Coaster was up and running for us.
Rollo Coaster was added to Idlewild in 1938 and while it only has a lift
that takes you up a whopping twenty-eight feet (You heard me right) it will
blow you away.
Idlewild is a park full of history and as a history geek like myself I really
enjoy that they share it with their guests.
Most of Rollo Coaster is hidden from view as it is built along a heavily
wooded hillside. The parks trees play an important role in making
the ride thrilling but many of them went into making the coaster as the
Philadelphia Toboggan Company in order to save a little money on the construction
erected a temporary mill on site in order to turn the wood from the trees
cut down for the ride into lumber for the coaster.
Rollo Coaster uses the step hillside to its benefit as this is about as
far as you get off of the ground throughout the ride.
