Silver Bullet brought Bond's coaster count of Schwarzkopf designed
rides to six while it was my fourteenth coaster by the "master".
Many coaster enthusiasts hold Anton Schwarzkopf and his rides in high regard
because they are extremely fun, smooth, thrilling and despite their age
very reliable rides.
You see back in the 1970's during the amusement park and roller coaster
boom there were two companies who made tubular steel coasters that looped
(which was the revolutionary new thing at the time). One was Arrow
Dynamics who pretty much made their coasters out of pre designed parts (all
the loops were the same size for example) that they'd just arrange in order
to make a ride and keep the rides cost down and then there was Anton's company.
Schwarzkopf was the type of engineer who spent his time with each
of his designs making them the best rides possible. Needless to say
Anton's rides were not cheep and as a result of his constant tinkering with
his designs to make them better it cost him in the end as Arrow sold more
rides than Schwarzkopf due to cost and other factors.
The thing is the coasters, especially the looping ones that Arrow sold back
then are now being demolished and removed due to roughness and low ridership
while Anton's coasters like Silver Bullet here at Frontier City, Shock Wave
at
Six Flags Over Texas,
Mind Bender at
Six Flags
Over Georgia, Scorpion at
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay or the Revolution at
Six Flags Magic Mountain are still running great and giving as good
a ride as they did when they opened. The shows what a truly amazing
designer Anton Schwarzkopf was.
