The Negative-G End of Summer Road Trip

Postby Paul Drabek » Sat Feb 12, 2011 6:06 pm

Hey all;

With the big -G trip at the beginning of summer we decided that the best way to finish out the summer would be a second road trip with friends. So we're going to hit the road for a second time with a van load of you and instead of heading south take an 180 degree change of course and go North to Wisconsin.

The plan is to hit pretty much everything the Chesehead State has to offer by hitting Little A-Merek-A, Mount Olympus, Timber Falls, The Zippin Pippin, a few dirty credits and maybe an alpine slide.

So if you're interested pop a note here and we'll start planning.

Have Fun

Paul

Dates...say the first or second weekend in August. My thought would be to do The Dells on a Thursday, Zippin Pippin and the Dells on Friday then hit Little A-Merek-A on Saturday before going home. A thought would be to get rooms at some of those hotels that offer Mount Olympus tickets (and ERT) with each day stayed so we can hit that every day while venturing to the other parks.

I would say uncertain for now... especially since ACE is planning on going that way next spring.....

Paul you know you'll have more fun with us!

If we could do it 4-7 it would work much better for me and we'd skip crowds. But yeah around that time.

Hmmmm. The first weekend in August could potentially work for me. It depends on how many people have asked off for that week, although it is typically a pretty slow time for us. That weekend I would only have to ask off for Saturday....I do still have 10 hours of PTO to use....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sounds interesting. Not sure if I can swing it. Definitely keep me in the loop, should have a better idea where my vacation balance stands after Con.

Hey one of the Mount Olympus hotels has a three queen suite for $173 a night with tickets for all included. Meaning if people wanted to share beds we could save a ton and hit Mount O every day we're there3.

Say 6 people in a room it's be $86 per person over 3 nights with tickets included.

Have Fun

Paul - it's a pretty decent haul to get to Green Bay from Wisconsin Dells, isn't it? That's my only concern. I am definitely going to ride the Pippin at some point this summer, the original is still one of my favorite coasters.

I'll have to see where it fits in to my school schedule - I'd love to go if it works out for both Nick and I. Especially with that sweet deal you have worked up.

Kat it'd be awesome having you and Nick with us. The best question is can you stand to be stuck in a hotel room with a bunch of coaster dorks?

Have Fun

Here's an idea for an itinerary for the trip:

  • Wednesday night - head to the Dells and check in
  • Thursday - Mount Olympus
  • Friday - Get up early and drive to Green Bay (about a 3 hour drive) and score the Zippin Pippin
Head back to the Dells - maybe do the Ducks - score the kiddie coaster at the FEC there - have a nice dinner - spend the evening at Timber Falls on Avalanche (or whatever it's called)
  • Saturday - Mount Olympus in the morning - Leave the Dells and hit Little A-Merek-A - Whoever is heading with me back here we can hit an alpine slide in Galena on the way home

If we need to to have this trip go Fri-Sun I could switch a day at work or take a day off in order to have Sunday off. I'd prefer to go Thu-Sat as we'd have a less crowded day at Mt. O.

Have Fun

You say that like it would be our first time experiencing such a thing. ;) I won't even mention the Neg-G hot tub party...

As for the itinerary - Nick and I both have class and/or work Mon-Thurs, so Fri-Sun would be better for us. Leaving on a Wednesday night would cause major rearrangements for both of us schedule-wise.

D'oh forgot about that.

You two are taking summer school this year. Ok, we'll plan for a Fri-Sun trip if that's ok with everyone else.

Have Fun
