The DelGrosso family got into the amusement park business in a
weird way. The daughter of an Italian immigrant with a knack
for cooking Mafalda Pulcino worked at an Italian restaurant in
Altoona that was ran by her mother. One Ferdinand DelGrosso
walked into the diner and soon the two became inseparable and were
married.
In 1943 with her mamma's pasta sauce recipe the couple opened
DelGrosso's Cafe in Altoona and soon with a demand from customers to
take the pasta sauce home the couple sold the diner and purchased
Bland's Park not only to run the park but to use the site to
commercially produce DelGrosso's Pasta Sauce.
Bland's Park grew and DelGrosso's Pasta Sauce grew and in the 1970's
the family built a full scale industrial plant across the street
from the park to keep producing and selling the family recipe far
and wide.
So when you are riding the Wacky Worm or the Crazy Mouse you might
get a whiff of pasta sauce from the plant across the street.
Despite being a really cute coaster geared for children there is
nothing wrong with a bunch of guys taking one for a ride in order to
add another coaster to their count.
