Mike tapped the altimeter three times and we kept falling as I was
enjoying it too much. Then he tapped it three more times so I
reached back and gave the ripcord a yank.
If you're the type of person who likes positive G's then this is the
moment for you as the sudden deceleration is quite a kick. Not
painful but the straps around your legs really dig in.
Oh I'm not sure if I was on the most extreme ride there as when we
opened the chute I looked down to see the plane that took us up land
beneath us to start loading more jumpers. We were the last ones
out, took a course straight down and he still beat us. That had to
have been one extreme dive. Chicagoland Skydiving Center offers an
observer ride so you can watch everyone jump before diving to the
airport and I might have to do that the next time I'm up there.
Kevin and his instructor made it down just fine.
What goes up (in a plane), must come back down (not nececerilly in a
plane). As we floated above the airport Mike gave me the
straps to control the canopy and with a yank to the left we spiraled
down almost perpendicular to the ground. Leveling out I gave the
controls back to Mike. I just didn't like being in control of it.
I just really like being able to let go and not have to be in control
(part of the attraction of coasters to me) so I instructed Mike to give
me a heck of a ride and he did. Swooping around there was a blast
but no where near as good as the feeling of falling.
Before we went up Mike asked how I wanted to land. He said we
could either run in or slide as it was a little windy. Being a
little concerned about my knees after having had surgeries on both of
them due to martial arts I went with the slide option.
