You have enough time to look at the amazing view of Canada's
Wonderland all around you.
You have the time to notice the lake way beneath you with a little
tunnel that the track leads into. If you are lucky you get
to see a train on Vortex as it wraps around the track you are riding on.
Then...
...click! Going down!
Before you know it Yukon Striker has you plummeting down towards the
surface of the lake and beneath it.
Moving off of the ride experience for a second it has been pretty much
common knowledge that Cedar Fair was planning a B&M dive coaster
Wonderland years before the ride was announced last August. In
order to build the tunnel and have Vortex wrapped around Yukon Striker
construction began back in the winter of 2017-2018. Last year
before the announcement this tunnel had been built with track installed
as they had to get permits to temporarily divert the water to build the
footers and tunnel. Throughout the 2018 season Wonderland had
coaster track for their 2019 addition on site and up but up until the
announcement with tarps covering the tunnel when requests were made on
what they were doing the park just responded with "there's nothing to
see here".
Open secret or not it didn't dampen the excitement about Yukon Striker.
I sweat I had about eighty non enthusiast friends on social media send
me renderings of Yukon Striker's first drop asking if I was crazy enough
to ride it. Yes I am crazy enough to ride it and please do not
send me coaster pictures that are going viral as chances are I have seen
it fifty to a hundred times already.
