Kentucky Kingdom opened in 1987 on the Kentucky State Fairgrounds. It ran as an independent park until 1998 when Six Flags purchased the park and turned it into Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Six Flags ran the park with little success until 2009. In early 2010 Six Flags; which was in the middle of bankruptcy, decided to close the park. Kentucky Kingdom sat idle as the state which owned the property and rides looked for a new company to open and run the park. In 2014 Kentucky Kingdom's previous owner Ed Heart took over the park once again and brought it back to life.
